Dennis Dwyer

DIPLOMA OF APPLIED SCIENCE (OPTOMETRY) ; GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN OCULAR THERAPEUTICS

As an independent optometrist throughout his career, Dennis values the impact that good eyecare can have a person’s quality of sight and life. Professional education in Australia and in the UK enables Dennis to understand the needs of his patients and recommend the best treatment option for his patients, many of whom have been associated with the practice as lifelong patients. His passion for independent optometry was seen in his active involvement in Optometry Australia and Provision as board member. He relishes the opportunity to speak to community groups on eye health and eye care and loves to mentor young optometrists as they begin their careers. Dennis is an enthusiastic Queenslander at Rugby League State of Origin time. In his spare time, he loves spending time with family and friends and being in the great outdoors.

Murray Ross

BACHELOR OF APPLIED SCIENCE; GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN OCULAR THERAPEUTICS

Murray started at the age of 15 with a part-time job in an optical mini-lab and has now been practising for 30 years. At these early stages, a deep curiosity formed and he had to unlock the mystery of how an optometrist could derive a mathematical formula from a human eye to create a spectacle lens. Of all the 5 senses, Murray feel sight is the most precious and it would be vital to care for it. Combining science, innovative technology and working with people to drive life-changing outcomes has been so rewarding. Being able to enjoy the great outdoor lifestyle of the Redcliffe Peninsula is an added bonus.

Katie Dwyer

BACHELOR OF VISION SCIENCE (DISTINCTION) MASTER OF OPTOMETRY (DISTINCTION)

Katie graduated from QUT in 2013 and has worked in corporate and independent optometry in Perth and Brisbane. Since returning to Brisbane, Katie has worked as a corporate optometrist, a clinical supervisor of students of Master of Optometry at QUT and as a clinical optometrist in a private ophthalmology clinic gaining further insight into the treatment of cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Katie loves that optometry combines both physics and biology and enjoys helping patients look and feel their best, whether in spectacles or contact lenses. When not at work, Katie loves catching up with friends and family and baking treats for the lucky ones.

Dr Rohan Hughes

BACHELOR OF VISION SCIENCE (DISTINCTION) MASTER OF OPTOMETRY (DISTINCTION) PHD Optometry

Rohan graduated from QUT in 2013 and was awarded the Optometrists Association Australia (QLD/NT Division) award for clinical excellence and the Johnson & Johnson Vision Care award for excellence in the contact lens studies. His first few years practising optometry were in Perth, where he developed special interests in the management of myopia (short-sightedness) development and progression, children’s vision, and management of eye disease.

Rohan returned to Brisbane in 2017 to undertake a full-time PhD at QUT which he completed in 2020. His thesis examined the changes that occur in children’s eyes when they focus at near distances and the relationship these changes have with myopia development and progression. He has published several peer-reviewed journal articles in this area, and is continuing to pursue these research interests.

Rohan has also previously served on the Optometry Queensland/Northern Territory Board, with one term as Vice President.
